Sunshine, oh sunshine

Ivy (4.5) called me AGAIN to come into her room after bedtime. I was steamed. It's been a long day and I just want to clean up and then go to bed myself. I lectured her a bit and showed my impatience. Covered her up and said she had to stop calling me and just go to sleep.
I covered her up, gave her a quick snuggle and practically stormed out. Turned to look back and looked at her just to see her snuggled up to her blanket. She started singing... "you are my sunshine, my only sunshine..."

Where'd the kids go?

We found a swarm of baby what I call "cactus bugs" on some pieces of grass the girls gathered this morning. I told them they ate plants so the girls asked that I take them away. I tossed the grass into the road.
As we walked back to the bowl where we found the bugs Ivy (4) said "We squished those little cactus bugs. And when their mama and daddy comes back to their bowl they will say 'We think our kids got out of bed'" (dun dun dun)

Strange answers to simple questions

Weird conversations with kids:

Me: "Why is your sister tied to the playhouse door and sitting on the roof?"

Lorelei: "Because I tied her there and she doesn't want to be untied until she has wings"

She was given wings by her sister. Then they convinced me to wear them during our before bed walk.
Someone actually yelled "nice wings" out their car window at me.

At the dinner table...

Me: "We need to remember to dump out containers of water you play with outside so we don't get baby mosquitos"
Lorelei: "why?"
Me: "Because its not pleasant to be bitten by mosquitoes"
Ivy: "It's also not pleasant to take off all your clothes at the dinner table!"

Deep thoughts from Ivy

My Ivy has started some philosophy at a young young age. This happened over breakfast:

Ivy (4):"I think this might be a dream"
Lorelei (6): "What might be a dream?"
Ivy: "Life"
Lorelei: "What do you mean?"
Ivy: "This life may be a dream. Or a movie. That dinosaurs are watching"

And this was last night:

My 4 year old told me at bedtime that people kiss each other on the lips when they are going to get married.

Then she smooched me on the lips and told me I needed to get her flowers.

Impermanence

They were were brushing a ponies hair and it fell into a heart shape. Lorelei got ivy to look at it and then Ivy wanted to "keep it like that" Lorelei said it couldn't. Nothing is permanent.

Then it turned into a bit of a chant and next thing I know the girls were singing and chanting "nothing stays" and basically making up a song about the impermanence of life. "When you are dead your bones turn to diiirrrrtttt" "Unless you're left on top of the grassssss and then you'd get covered in MOOOLLLLLDDDD"

Who needs spiders?

The girls found a spider in their playhouse. They said it was big but I didn't really believe them until I saw it.
I caught it and put it in a huge jar on the porch. Later this happened as I was taking the picture:

Lorelei: What are you doing?
Me: Taking a picture of the spider
Ivy: Should we open the jar?
Me: I don't think so. You don't want this living on our porch do you?
Ivy, cocking her head to the side and smiling cutely: No. I want it to DIE.
