Morning cereal talk, over Froot Loops April 5 2014
Lorelei (5.5) What flavors are these? The orange is orange. The blue is blueberry. The red is cherry. The green is.... I don't know what the green is
Me: I think the green is Lime
Ivy (4): Green bean! The green is Green Bean!
Lorelei: I don't think that's it. Maybe it IS lime.
Ivy: I'm pretty sure it's green bean.
Some morning cute, March 26th:
Ivy: "I dreamed about dancing macaronis!!"
Lorelei: "Macaronis?"
Ivy: "And CHEEEEEESE!!"
March 17th
First time I've caught Lorelei slipping the wrong word.
She seems preoccupied. me: "Would you like bagel sandwiches or regular bread for lunch"
lorelei: "Regular blood. I mean bread"
Me: "what where you thinking about?"
Lorelei (giggling): "I'm really not sure mama."
February 27th, 2014On the way to school Ivy was telling me about a dream she had:
"Bats and owls came and took our car!! And they drove us to school! And you were in that seat (points at passanger seat) and we went to school and they came in with us and then Miss Elsie (teacher) said 'GO AWAY! you bats and owls GO HOME' She yelled it.
So then they bats and owls go back in the car and you did too and they drove the car home. And then they went back to their home"

Gardening and communication
It's been forever since I've added to this, which is silly of me. Lots of things being whisked away on Facebook to never be seen again.
Lorelei (now 4.5) made me so proud yesterday.
We were digging a new area of our garden out to plant a pretty Abutilon Belle (flowering maple that looks like a hibiscus). I found a grub and startled it with her by holding it close to her until she looked up. She looked up, jumped and shrieked. We both laughed and I tossed the grub in the yard. We went back to what we were doing and I found another and did the same thing--- what can I say, I can be a bit of a brat. She reacted the same way, with the jump, the shriek and the giggle.
But then.. she looked at me seriously and said, "Mommy, next time you find a grub can you just tell me and show me from further away and not put it so close to me? I don't like it when you do that, but I do like seeing them."
Holy cow! Communication at it's finest! She modeled it perfectly after the way I've been asking her to speak up for herself.

Experiments with physics
Give two kids a half deflated yoga ball and they will have an amazing time with it. Eventually if they are small enough they will figure out if one sits on one side and the other sits hard on the other side the first one will fly off. They will have an amazing time of this until they get carried away and the littler one flies halfway across the porch and gets a black eye. Mom of the year award for me.

Feet
We're sitting in the waiting room waiting for my car to be inspected when I realize Lorelei was wearing her shoes on the wrong feet.
I told her and she said "Oh..so this one goes on my LEFT foot." I looked and sure enough she was correct. "When did you learn left and right Lorelei? What is this foot?" (pointing to her right foot).... "My OTHER left foot" she replied proudly.
